People ask me all the time: are you a Republican or a Democrat? Neither. I'm an independent candidate — because the two-party system stopped serving the 99% a long time ago. Here's exactly where I stand next to the parties, in plain English.
We agree on a lot. The difference is who I answer to.
Like a lot of conservatives and Republicans — the GOP — I believe in limited government, backing law enforcement, financial responsibility, and the freedoms our Constitution protects. Where I break with the Republican Party: too many Republican politicians answer to corporate donors and the party machine first and voters second. I take no corporate PAC money and no lobbyist dollars — so when I say "limited government," I mean it for everybody, not just for the donors' friends.
We agree on a lot too. The difference is I don't want a bigger government running your life.
Like a lot of liberals, progressives, and Democrats — the Democratic Party — I believe in fair wages, affordable healthcare, second chances, and standing up for working families. Where I break with the Democrats: I don't believe the answer is a bigger, more expensive federal government telling you how to live. Big people, little government. Help people up — don't hold them down with red tape.
Close cousins on liberty — different on government's real job.
I share the Libertarian love of liberty and small government. But government has a real job — take care of our veterans, keep our streets safe, protect our rights — and it should do that job well instead of doing a thousand other jobs badly.
People over profits — we say it louder.
The Green Party talks about people over profits. I live it: no corporate money, no special interests, period. My fight is for the working people the system leaves behind — veterans, 9-to-5ers, the homeless, the formerly incarcerated — not for any party's platform committee.
